Art magic journaling and a tarot exercise for you

LOVE YOUR ART JOURNAL

I had a one on one meeting a couple of weeks ago with 4th generation witch, Ginny Metheral. It literally blew my mind away! The exercises we did revealed so much that I needed to deal with and gave me a heap of food for thought. She left me with the job of learning to build my own self worth, by firstly treating myself to something indulgent (preferably witchy!)

I usually tell myself that whatever notebook I can get my hands on will be "good enough" (probably nice and cheap) so I pushed my boundaries and went full out to buy a fabulous leather covered hand made journal. I must admit that I found it hard to justify the money on "just a journal", then I realised how important journaling is to me and that I don't treat it with quite the reverence that I should. I felt quite fizzy and self indulgent after making the purchase and then I added a hand made amethyst pendulum to the purchase list and I felt great! Like I had made a step in the right direction on the self worth path.

I've been digging into the new journal and absolutely loving it. The paper is gorgeous and thick and a joy to work on. I have set up the back signature as an area to fill with witchy knowledge, like rune meanings, crystal, herb, oils and astrological information. I can add to this as I learn new things.

I have been drawn to doodling birds this week. I have noticed them as I walk my grand daughter to school and heard them singing when I open the balcony doors in a morning to let the cats have some fresh air.

I think the birds have messages for me, after Ginny told me my helpful spirit guide at present is a Robin! My robin is very energetic and purposeful and makes me get the job done, and at the same time telling me that I need to stop worrying and everything will turn out OK.

This page was created after a tarot reading which further reinforced the messages that Ginny had given me. I like to use the main meanings from tarot and oracle readings, to create simple affirmations, which are made more real and powerful when you use colour and paint, focusing on the lessons that you need to learn. It is like reducing a sauce in the kitchen to make it more concentrated in flavour and power! To see these on your page will show you where you need to focus in your current situation. I recommend this exercise as it works wonders for me! You could even turn these into little affirmation cards to display on your altar. What a wonderful Art witchy project!

Today I picked a tarot card from my new deck -

The Edmund Dulac tarot (a birthday present from my son and daughter in law)

I added it to my journal spread by photocopying it and using it as collage, along with a super cute copy of a character from one of my vintage Twinkle comics! You will see more of these as I scan and print them for collage fodder. Her name is Jenny Wren.

The World is a lovely card to pull and I'm breathing in all it's goodness today.

If you want to get started with some art magic this week why not try this exercise?

  • Pull a tarot card and see what the meaning makes you feel like?

  • Are you happy about it or sad. Angry or hopeless. Full of energy or depleted?

  • What affirmations could you write to help you learn something from this card?

  • What colour does it make you think/feel? Use this colour as your background.

  • Is that linked to a certain chakra? Is there a crystal that might help you today?

  • What collage images can you find that supports this affirmation?

  • Get your paint and pens and mess about in your journal. Use your intuition to guide you to what feels best. This is what you need right now. Trust it.
